What is our mission?
Our ESL program seeks to help the adult immigrants and refugees living in and near the City of Revere to learn the English language. It is a plain and simple goal but not an easy one to meet. We are not a school. We don’t employ teachers. We use all volunteers who want to serve and help people. We try to reach local residents who walk or take public transportation to our church. Most of our students have little experience learning English – they are self-taught, but they want to know more and they are motivated!
A growing immigrant population needing to be served
As we re-opened in the Fall of 2021, despite Covid, our enrollment was over 50 students from over 10 different countries with nearly 70% of them living in Revere. Many of them are women with children who want to learn English to help better educate their kids.
Who can help?
We need teachers and classroom assistants. You don’t need to speak another language to help; we only use English! Teachers work in teams and use a simple lesson-based curriculum. Classroom assistants help teachers in class and do some one-on-one assistance with students. Our classes are held twice weekly.
When are the next classes?
We have two semesters each year, September to December and January to May. Our next semester starts in September 2024.
What can you do?
Classroom assistants – Works with teachers helping students, checking work and answering questions. No experience is necessary. We are looking for a commitment for the whole semester either one or both class days of the week. Each class period lasts 2 hours.
Teachers – Using our curriculum and leading a team to teach students English. We are looking for a commitment for the whole semester either one or both class days of the week.
Childcare - We hope to offer childcare again in the Fall. We need childcare workers each Monday and Wednesday.

Every May and December students present what they have learned during the semester.
Classes consist of 16-20 students at 6 different levels.
Our students love to share what they are learning.
